Photo: Mina Lee Speakers Chris Morin Michael Peterson Manuela Valle-Castro Kevin Wesaquate Details Event Description An evening of performance, spoken word, readings and storytelling that places indigenous and newcomer/immigrant stories from the Americas in conversation with one another. In addition to performances, visiting artists and activists from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (Chris Morin, Michael Peterson, Manuela Valle- Castro, and Kevin Wesaquate), will discuss their Newcomer Zine project* and its iteration in Princeton, NJ (settled non-ceded Lenni-Lenape territory). We situate this encounter on the day recognized as the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ arrival to the Caribbean as an active reckoning with this history and its legacies through art, storytelling and praxis. * To apply to participate in this zine workshop in Princeton on October 12 and 14, please see the application form here: bitly.com/ princetonzineworkshop. This event participates in the Being Human festival of the Princeton University Humanities Council and is co-sponsored by the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, the Program in Canadian Studies, and the University Center for Human Values.
